During that time period what was the policy on shunning? Was it possible to walk away from the sect with less repercussions than there is today?

1932-1971 how was the congregation run?
by pirata inthe arrangement for body of elders and deacons / minsisterial servants existed pre-1932 (democratically elected) and post-1971 ("theocratically" appointed).. are there any here who remembers how things were run from 1932-1971?
i see mention of the "congregation overseer" and a committee of men to carry out his instructions, but not too clear on much beyond this.
did the congregatino overseer pretty much run the show and make all the decisions?

I find it somewhat pathetic that in the 21 st century many people continue to believe in folk magic and primitive superstitions. There are no demons, it’s all in your imagination. Satan is no more real than Zeus, Poseidon, or Krishna. “Demon Possession” was a sweeping diagnosis made in the past to describes sufferers of mental illness.
It is obvious you have never witnessed the other side personally with a RASH, LOGICAL and OPEN mind. I have, and it is quite interesting, for lack of a better word... I'm not talking self delusional feelings of something happening, I'm talking the real deal. All I know is the experience, scared the holy shit out of my animals while the ceremony was proceeding...
I’m glad that you’re willing to discuss this subject from a rash, logical perspective. What exactly has happened during your “ceremonies”? What type of rituals are you performing to see this spirit world? Were you consuming any mind altering substances? Did you actually experience any visual or auditory hallucinations or what it just a “feeling” that you experienced. Do you have any history of mental illness in you family? I’m not trying to insult, but for the sake of a logical discussion I think you need to honestly address the subject of a family history of mental illness.

Quebec moves to curtail religion in daycare centres

those who disregard the new directive will be subject to various sanctions, including the possible loss of their government subsidy.. .

Daycare workers will be allowed to say their prayers but not permitted to make children recite them. Religious leaders including rabbis, imams and priests will no longer be allowed to visit daycare centers.
Looks like these "Holy Men" will have to adapt their tactics if they wish to continue ensnaring these young children. Maybe they could try waiting for them to come outside the daycare and then separate them from the group, "Hey kid, you like candy?"

i need to find out about the culture and beliefs of jw's.
it must be from a genuine jw, not hear say from someone who 'knows' about the faith or has previously been a jw, i need to hear the view as a positive.. if anyone can help i'd be grateful if you could get in touch.

Hi Charlotte. Sorry for the unwelcoming responses you initially received. But you have to look at it from our perspective. Your first post mentioned that you were “researching” the JW’s. Then you asked for only “positive” experiences from people still in the Sect. As I’m sure you’re well aware, that’s not how you honestly research a subject. But now I understand why you’re approaching the subject from that angle. I’m curious what kind of class is requiring an essay from that particular viewpoint?
I would love to help you with your essay, but I don’t fit the criteria you listed. “I need to hear the view as a positive.” The majority of the members of this forum are ex-JW’s. The Jehovah’s Witnesses have a strict shunning policy for anyone who leaves the cult, so you probably won’t find many experiences here that are completely “positive”. Good luck with the essay, I just finished my finals last week.

" especially former jehovah's witnesses.
and though it's true in a number of senses, we must be conscious of the fact that the early christians were considered by nearly everyone in roman and jewish society as a cult.

Yes, you’re correct that the JW’s are not the first cult ever. Good job noticing that. Christianity originally was a cult or sect of Judaism. And this “Christ” character in the Bible is a prototypical cult leader. Are you starting to learn anything yet about your own “faith”?

Children of adult ex-jw's
by man in black inmy wife and i were both jw's for the past 28 years.
we left two years ago, we wrote our da letters and split.. my wife felt very contained, there was no room to grow.
i started to fade slowly, but when my mom died, i saw the complete lack of love from the brothers and that sealed the deal for me.. we have two sons, 22 and 26, who we raised as witnesses, not the die hard type, just try and do your best.
